CONFIRMED NEWS Here Is The Latest News About WAEC and
Resumption Date For All Schools
The Federal Government, through th Minister of Education, Mallam
Adamu Adamu has debunked the news that is the West African
Examination Council (WAEC) and other final examinations may
hasten up the school resumption, saying the schools in Nigeria will
not be resuming any moment from now until it is safe to do so.
According to Vanguard, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu
Adamu made the statement while briefing State House
correspondents at the end of the 7th virtual Federal Executive
Council, FEC, meeting led by President Muhammadu Buhari at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Contrary to the widely spread news earlier, the minister made it
clear that no students, including those preparing for Senior
Secondary School Examination (SSCE), will be allowed to resume
too soon until it is safe to do so; saying, he would rather prefer that
the students lose an academic year than exposing them to
dangers.
Meanwhile, some states have announced the resumption of
schools, but the minister has appealed to such states to reconsider
their decisions and avoid putting the lives of the young ones in
jeopardy.
WAEC which was supposed to be written in May and was later
postponed till May, as part of an effort to contain the spread of the
COVID-19 has being misquoted by many to determine the schools
reopening, but Adamu, while briefing the press today, Wednesday
8th July, Adamu reinstated that no schools under the supervision
of the Ministry of Education will be opened on August 4, as earlier
rumored and not even any moment from now.
The rate of infections going up will not allow any school to get
reopened too soon, according to the Minister of Education. He said
WAEC will not determine for them and so, all schools will still
remain closed till further notice.
Read what the minister said: “Yesterday (Tuesday), we called on
stakeholders who will tell us the situation and the way it should be
done for it to be safe. While the meeting was going on, WAEC
announced that they are starting examinations. Let’s see who they
are going to start with.
1. Do you think the school reopening is taking too long and the
government should reconsider its decisions on shutting down the
schools till further notice?
2. Between losing an academic or risking exposing the students
and pupils to dangers, how do you think the government should
best go able to handle this matter?
